The list of those seeking the chairmanship of the MDGOP just got longer

Here we go, from the Washington Post—two new candidates and the latest list as of yesterday.  By the way, you can see by my interest in this race that I got bitten by the campaign bug right along with Tea Partiers everywhere and I don’t want the campaigning to end!  Well, and it is important that Maryland pick a conservative leader respected by Tea Party-type conservatives or we will be seeing the development of possibly a third party movement in the state.

Two more potential candidates for chairman of the Maryland Republican Party confirmed their interest in interviews with The Post on Friday: Andrew Langer and William Campbell.

Langer, president of the Washington-based Institute for Liberty and a long-time activist in Maryland politics, said he believes the party must make a long-term commitment to expanding its numbers, including through extended outreach to minority groups.

“We need to take a cue from the Tea Party movement and build from the bottom up,” said Langer, who has been active in the Tea Party movement.

The List

Members of the party’s central committee will make the selection Dec. 11. Here’s a recap of other candidates who have expressed interest in the chairmanship:

* Mary Kane: Running mate this year with former governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R); former Maryland secretary of state; wife of John Kane, former Maryland GOP party chairman.
* Eric Wargotz: Unsuccessful GOP nominee this year for U.S. Senate; member of the Queen Anne’s County Board of Commissioners.
* Alex X. Mooney: Three-term state senator from Frederick; lost his reelection this year.
* Carmen M. Amedori: Briefly served as running mate for GOP gubernatorial candidate Brian Murphy; former state delegate from Carroll County; former member of the State Parole Commission.
* Mike Esteve: Chairman of the Maryland College Republicans.
* Sam Hale: Founder of the conservative group the Maryland Society of Patriots.

Update November 21: Sam Hale interview posted at RedState, here.

Thanks Mr. Wagner for including Sam Hale, the former field director of the Brian Murphy for Governor campaign.
