The left’s war on us is total. Will the GOP ever fight back?

Every week it seems we come across new attacks by the Obama administration, Chuck Schumer, and other leftist politicans on businesses, Republicans, Tea Party groups, and others they consider their enemies.  Here’s a piece in Forbes that collects a lot of them — Obama’s Weaponization of Government, by Thomas Basile.  I can’t say it’s complete, because new outrages are sure to be discovered.  Here’s the nub, describing the State of the Union address:

The Bureaucrats of Modern Medicine, by Jose Perez

Everyone in the House Chamber knew something that the American people have yet to fully grasp and Republicans have yet to demonstrate an ability to combat – that their government has grown so large, so complex, so involved in virtually every aspect of their lives, that it is now being used as a weapon to by a small segment of the ruling political class.

The weaponization of government is happening and it’s time Americans took notice.  For all the folks – primarily on the left – who screamed and yelled that the Patriot Act was shredding the Constitution, far more intrusive tactics that have nothing to do with the NSA or Homeland Security are being deployed right under our noses during this Administration.  Those tactics reduce every Americans’ personal and economic freedom.

The usual roll call is here — the IRS intimidation of conservative groups, Schumer’s stated intention to destroy groups that disagree with the Democrat agenda; Obama’s unconstitutional changes to immigration law, ObamaCare, and other acts of Congress; his attempt to raise the minimum wage, also unconstitutional…you know about these. But there’s a lot I didn’t know about — and it’s extraordinarily important!

Documents inadvertently leaked by the Department of the Treasury from a briefing on Operation Choke Point clearly show that the Administration is looking to significantly impact legal businesses because it believes the public needs to be protected from industries and customers deemed more likely to engage in criminal activity.  According to the Administration, those industries interestingly include ammunition sales, gun sales, home-based charities, gambling, pharmaceutical sales, short-term loans, raffles, Amway and Mary Kay-style sales businesses, and credit repair services.

The Administration is refusing to answer any Congressional inquiries about Operation Choke Point.

On and on goes the infuriating litany.  And the last paragraph sums it up (as last paragraphs are supposed to do).

Our system of government is based on checks and balances.  Ever since the beginning of the 20th Century, the Executive has, to one degree or another, been the dominant branch of government in large part due to the explosion of the Federal bureaucracy.  Hundreds of agencies, departments, programs, task forces, and commissions are an arsenal that in the wrong hands can be used against the very freedom the government is supposed to uphold, protect and defend.  Rest assured, it’s in the wrong hands.  It’s time the toothless tiger called the GOP crafted a full-throat-ed strategy to investigate, expose and counter Barack Obama’s weaponization of government.

My cry, and that of millions of other Americans, is: Who represents us?  Who will stand up for the interests of the American people against this toxic ruling class?

  1. Excellent question! Do you have a good answer to it?

    • I wish I did, Greg. The more I learn about the Ruling Class attitude of top elected Republicans the more upset and angry I get. While ordinary Republicans and conservatives expect their representatives in Congress to follow the principles they proclaim, in fact many of them seem to be motivated more by wanting to be popular among Democrats, loved by the media, and promised a lucrative position by the special interests that are looking for government favors. They want those things even more than they want to be in the majority. What else could explain the eager support of amnesty by John Boehner and others?

We need to elect more Tea Party-minded candidates and to support those in Congress who are motivated by principle not self-interest. We need to support efforts to educate citizens on what America is about, like Hillsdale College’s Kirby Center which has online courses on the Constitution, economics, and history.

It would help greatly if conservatives had more media. There are super-wealthy conservatives and I wish they’d put their money into buying TV stations and other media.
