Black deaf university diversity officer put on leave for signing gay marriage petition

Remember those petitions signed by over 100,000 Marylanders to allow the issue of gay marriage to be decided by the voters on November 6th, well it appears the witch hunt is on for those who signed it.

Diversity of views is obviously verboten at the nation’s premiere university for the deaf.

From The Corner at NRO (hat tip:  Judy)

Gaullaudet* University has put Dr. Angela McCaskill, its chief diversity officer, on paid leave because she signed a petition to put gay marriage before the voters of Maryland:

Columnist Maggie Gallagher relates what happened to a distinguished university administrator and asks:

Nobody that I know of is losing his job for being for gay marriage. Is this more evidence of what gay marriage means — not diversity but a new public moral norm?

* Misspelling with a purpose?

  2. First of all, allow me to congratulate you for using the word “verboten (from the German, forbidden,)” I had to look that one up. Now, back to business.

    The first amendment of the United States Constitution allows Ms. McCaskill to petition the government for a redress of grievances, ie., sign a petition. See ammendment 1 of the U.S. constitution.

    Apparently, the President of Galluadet University, Mr. T. Alan Hurwitz, thinks that the diversity of Galluadet University supercedes the constitution of the United States.

    Secondly, Ms. McCaskill signing the petition had nothing to do with the diversity of the school with which she is charge. Signing the petition in no way dicourages diversity at the school. Signing the petition in no way implies that gays are not welcome at Galluadet, that minorities are not welcome at Galluadet, or that anybody is not welcome at Galluadet.

    I think we should make a concentrated effort to call for the resignation of T. Alan Hurwitz who, apparently, is willing to put political correctness, and dancing to the socialist drumbeat, ahead of the constitution and human rights.

    This woman did nothing wrong!
