Obama moves to kill the family farm!

We have been hearing rumblings about this for months, but now US Senators John Thune and Jerry Moran (both Republicans from farm states) are attempting to legislatively stop this outrage and are giving us a fuller picture of what Obama’s Labor Department has in mind.

And, before you read on consider that Glenn Beck has been saying for at least a year, that the Socialists/Communists in the Obama Administration want to control the production of food in the US—truly the ultimate weapon against a free and independent people.  What better way to do that then destroying the small PRIVATE family farm.

Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit reported late last night:

Senators John Thune (R-S.D.) and Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) today introduced the Preserving America’s Family Farm Act, to prevent the Department of Labor (DOL) from enacting its controversial proposed restrictions that would ban children from working on family farms.

Here is what Thune and Moran had to say:

Last year, DOL Secretary Hilda Solis proposed rules that would restrict family farm operations by prohibiting youth under the age of 18 from being near certain age animals without adult supervision, participating in common livestock practices such as vaccinating and hoof trimming, and handling most animals more than six months old, which would severely limit participation in 4-H and FFA activities and restrict their youth farm safety classes; operating farm machinery over 20 PTO horsepower; completing tasks at elevations over six feet high; and working at stockyards and grain and feed facilities. The language of the proposed rule is so specific it would even ban youth from operating a battery powered screwdriver or a pressurized garden hose.

“The Department of Labor has proposed 85 pages of unreasonable and overreaching rules that would unnecessarily restrict the participation of young people in agriculture related activities,” said Thune.

Moran:

“There is no better example of the vast overreach of government into the everyday lives of Americans than the Department of Labor’s proposed rule to regulate young people working on farms and ranches,” Sen. Moran said. “For generations, the contributions of young people have helped family farm and ranch operations survive and prosper. If this proposal goes into effect, not only will the shrinking rural workforce be further reduced, and our nation’s youth be deprived of valuable career training opportunities, but a way of life will begin to disappear. This proposal should alarm more than just rural America. If the federal government can regulate the relationship between parents and their children on their own family’s farm, there is virtually nothing off limits when it comes to government intrusion into our lives.”

Then Hoft highlights a comment he received from a reader:

Do you think this is mere incompetence by Team Obama? Who benefits? Corporate agribusiness tied in with the Dept of Agriculture. Hiring lots of migrant labor. Tied in with the Democratic Party. And it undercuts rural Americans who are hostile to the Democratic Party agenda. And it hurts the GOP. This is absolutely intentional.

Maryland has a rich family farm tradition and all of you should be contacting Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin and letting them have it over this egregious attack by Democrats on personal freedom. Mikulski and Cardin could sign on to the Thune/Moran bill (which already has 37 co-sponsors) as the best way to show their displeasure.  (I know don’t hold your breath!)  Contact your Representative in Congress as well!  I don’t know if there is a companion bill in the House, but there should be!

Responses

  1. The family farm has been in big trouble for a LONG time, Obama is just continuing elite NWO policy that Democrats AND Republicans before him put in place.

  2. Just in time for the premiere of “The Hunger Games”!

  3. Ok, I understand the frustration felt by anyone owning a family farm with children participating in the farming process. Farming is a legacy process; you learn by doing, but if you think that contacting Barbara Milkulski or Ben Cardin is going to make a difference, you are smoking some kind of dope that I don’t know about. Mikulski and Cardin are in-step liberals that vote the way that they are told, in my opinion. The only way to fix this problem is to remove Cardin and Mikulski from office, which can’t happen soon enough for me.

    • Hi Greg, not smoking anything over here, but am a believer in not letting them get by without feeling some heat. This is a great issue for those running against Cardin right now and they should make hay with it! And, Mikulski isn’t up for reelection for 4 more years, so she needs to hear from unhappy constituents from now until then…. of course the rumor is that she will retire before then and O’Malley will appoint himself to the seat.

  4. […] with this one.  I told you about their attempt to restrict American kids from working on farms, here.  (Probably because they needed to make sure there are plenty of jobs for immigrant workers, legal […]
