Compare MD GOP Presidential straw poll with that of MD CAN’s poll….

….. and draw your own conclusions.

I found these numbers interesting and can think of all sorts of explanations for the results, but am not sure any would be particularly useful to share.

The Maryland Conservative Action Network held its “Turning the Tides” conference on October 29th in Annapolis with straw poll results as follows:

Herman Cain 42%
Ron Paul 21%
Michelle Bachmann 11%
Newt Gingrich 7%
Mitt Romney 6%
Rick Santorum 6%
Rick Perry 4%
Jon Huntsman 1%
Other 2%

The Maryland GOP held its fall meeting on November 11th, also in Annapolis, with the following straw poll results:

Mitt Romney – 26%
Newt Gingrich – 20%
Herman Cain – 20%
Ron Paul – 19%
Michele Bachmann – 5%
Rick Perry – 5%
Jon Huntsman – 4%
Gary Johnson – 1%

Of course much happened on the national political scene in the intervening two weeks, but the numbers still tell a story about Republican primary voters.  By the way, there was some overlap in attendance between the two groups, but not much.

I did think it was funny, that at MD CAN we forgot all about Gary Johnson (I suppose one could include him in the ‘other’ category), but at the MD GOP, they must have forgotten to include Rick Santorum.

  1. I attended the MDGOP convention and voted in the straw poll. Santorum was on the ballot, but my understanding is he received no votes and was therefore left off of the result totals.
