Update on MD CAN conference controversy

Here is more today on attempts by Leftwing groups to intimidate conservatives in Maryland.  Ken Timmerman writing at the Daily Caller tells us more about the letter we reported yesterday in which former Delegate Saqib Ali calls us bigots and hatemongers.

The Daily Caller:

Saqib Ali, a former Democratic member of the Maryland state legislature, aims to shut down a planned conference hosted by the Maryland Conservative Action (MDCAN) on Saturday, charging that speakers include “the nation’s leading Islamophobes.”

An open letter spearheaded by Ali has attracted the official endorsements of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Muslim Public Affairs Council, the Islamic Society of Annapolis, CASA de Maryland and Equality Maryland, a group that promotes gay marriage.

“Unfortunately, instead of inviting legitimate conservative speakers, MDCAN has instead chosen speakers who are well-known conspiracy theorists, McCarthyites, racists and anti-Muslim fanatics,” Ali wrote.

The letter, spearheaded by a well-known Maryland Democratic party activist, also takes aim at Republican lawmakers who have agreed to address the conference, asking them to “strongly reconsider” their decision to participate.

Read it all!  There is much more.

Further update:  In Richard Falknor’s good post today at Blue Ridge Forum on the shariah threat, he directs us to an excellent opinion piece by Joseph Farah at World Net Daily, here.  “Soft Shariah” is a good descriptive term for what is happening.

Update October 26th:  World Net Daily reported this story also.  The Southern Poverty Law Center got into the fray as well, here.

  1. Every hotel contract I have ever signed has a cancellation clause that stipulates the damages I must pay if I cancel the event after signing. There is also an impossibility clause allowing either party to terminate the contract without penalty for acts of God, natural disasters and other circumstances “beyond the control of either party.”

Conservatives need to demand language in the cancellation clause of any hotel contract they sign that protects them should the hotel cancel for reasons not “beyond the control of either party.”

Personally I would sue any hotel that cancelled my event based on complaints or threats by a third party.

It is time conservatives started fighting fire with fire.

    • Excellent points!

  2. To Mr. Ali – It appears your education is severely lacking. If I may assist in that regard: Article Six of our constitution says that our constitution is the highest law of the land and CANNOT BE SUBJUGATED TO ANY OTHER LEGAL CODE. Sharia law on the other hand says that ITs law is the highest law and that all others must submit to it. Islamic/sharia is therefore, FUNDAMENTALLY CONTRADICTORY to our law, and has no place in our country!! This is a MASSIVE CONFLICT that people such as yourself either do not understand, or, you dangerously choose to IGNORE it. Regardless, it represents a THREAT TO OUR COUNTRY, OUR CONSTITUTION AND NATIONAL SECURITY. And anyone, or any group, that seeks to EDUCATE people about this threat, is not only to be applauded – it is their RIGHT AND CIVIC DUTY TO DO SO !! If you choose to call someone racist for educating people regarding THREATS to our Constitutional law then, YOU sir, are the one with the problem because YOU sir, are undermining same. And don’t even try to say it’s about ‘freedom of religion’. Anyone who has bothered to educate themselves knows full well that ‘religion’ card is just camouflage for a stated, written agenda to FORCEFULLY IMPOSE sharia on U.S. citizens and take over our country from within. No other religion goes around trying to FORCE their religion on others, and saying they must be killed if they don’t convert. Excuse me, but where is the TOLERANCE and PEACE in that ? !! Well – it won’t work here!! If you or anyone wants to live under sharia, do us all a great favor and go back to wherever you came from because we don’t want or need more LAWBREAKERS !!! Go to some other country and BULLY your way around there !!!

  3. Ali knows full well that the speakers invited to MDCan ARE the legitimate conservative speakers, which is why he, Casa De maryland and the other left-wing groups denouncing the roster are so upset. They know that the true conservatives on the panel might very well put a serious “dent” into their plan.
Which it will, and they know it, which is why they are trying so hard to get these events cancelled and silenced.

They don’t get it, the jig is up, the truth is out, they can no longer hide in the shadows of secrecy, they are fighting back, holding on, the only way they know how, which will fail.

Americans, that is, true Americans, are not so willing to give up America as they thought. They’ve had their way for long enough, cloaked in secrecy, quietly buying politicians, etc.

It is now time for, We The People, to take our country back.

    • Greg Morris:

True Americans” are Americans who are citizens of the United States of America. They have different cultures and different religions and to claim anything to the contrary is completely & utterly un-American!

This event planned for Saturday is clearly featuring Islamaphobic speakers whom we’re protesting. Nowhere in Saqib Ali’s letter to the Islamaphobic Kenneth Timmerman states or implies anything along the lines of “shutting down their event” or prevention of freedom of speech. These are the exaggerations/spin/lies of Timmerman. ….and those who think in that same twisted mindset.
