Joey ‘the hitman’ Sandler wants to silence Maryland middle class voters

As we reported earlier, CASA de Maryland/Gustavo ‘Sandinista’ Torres, with backing from his union buddies, filed suit today to stop a referendum which would let voters decide if they want to subsidize the college educations of illegal aliens.

They want the State Board of Elections to throw away tens of thousands of signatures of Maryland middle class taxpayers and thus disenfranchise over 130,000 voters.

The issue obviously has major implications for the mob at the Democrat National Committee because they have brought in their big gun—Joseph E. Sandler (here is his law firm bio and photo)—a rich and powerful Washington, DC  attorney to do the hit job.  Sandler, btw, served as the DNC’s general counsel for many years until recently.

Harvard-educated Sandler is well-known for his role as a “silencer” as we noted in a post here in June.

~Sandler tried to silence Glenn Beck—to keep him from talking about Van Jones.

~Sandler silenced those clamoring in 2008 for Obama’s birth certificate.

~Sandler tried to silence Robert Spencer and keep him from talking about Muslim extremists.

~Sandler tried to silence the real Tea Party with the dirty trick of setting up phony Tea Parties.

~Sandler was involved in legal challenges to silence critics of gay marriage (by endorsing the plan to post all their names on the internet and thus subject them to potential harrassment).

~Sandler is trying to silence those who want photo IDs for voting.

That last is kind of ironic since it’s voter fraud he claims to be so concerned about with the successful petition drive on in-state tuition for illegals.

Readers!  This issue is a big deal for the Democrat Party.  They need to win this in Blue Maryland.  They need the illegal aliens voting (and voting for them).  They need the redistribution of wealth and the expansion of the welfare system—college welfare this time.

Make no mistake, this is not about the “kids”  or they would be setting up a scholarship fund for them instead of suing to silence voters.  The kids are nothing more than pawns in their socialist game.  And, they need to prop up their boy Martin O’Malley who Sandler and company are grooming for the big time.

In fact, it is such a big deal they are throwing the kitchen sink into the lawsuit as you’ll see in two different accounts of the suit that follow.

Here from the Gazette Sandler says its about fraud.

Joseph E. Sandler, a Washington, D.C.-based attorney working for Casa of Maryland, an immigrants’ rights organization, and other groups, said his firm reviewed the first batch of 47,000 validated signatures turned in by petitioners in May.

He believes 29,000 of those were not obtained legally and projects that more than half of the nearly 109,000 signatures validated by the state Board of Elections also should be dismissed.

The process of collecting signatures was ripe for fraud because signers were able to use a website, mdpetitions.com, to download the information legally required to sign the petition from voter rolls linked to the site, Sandler said.

By knowing a birth date and a name, anyone could import voter information to the petition form and then forge a signature, he said.

“If I know your birth date and where you live, your ZIP code, assuming you live in Maryland, I can put in your name, the computer program will print out a form with everybody’s name who lives in that household who is registered to vote,” Sandler said. “I can sign your name and have other people sign those other names, and no one would know the difference because the signatures aren’t checked against anything. So if the voter doesn’t put in their own information, there’s no safeguard against rampant fraud.”

Sandler also argued that the tuition law, known as the Dream Act, cannot be subject to referendum under Maryland law because the state constitution prohibits bringing laws to referendum that maintain or aid a public institution.

And, here in the Washington Examiner it’s clearer that its about claiming SB167 is an appropriations bill.

Filed by Casa de Maryland, a group of students, a parent and a teacher against the state Board of Elections, the suit points to Maryland’s constitution, which says a law that appropriates funding to a government program — as the Maryland Dream Act does — cannot be put to a referendum “precisely to prevent the kind of disruption in government programs and operations that the filing of this petition has caused,” said Joseph Sandler, attorney for the group.

Delegate Neil Parrott called the lawsuit “silly” because if Sandler succeeds it means that no referendum could ever be brought to a vote in Maryland.   But, then again, that sounds exactly like what the thugs and bullies running the DNC want—no voice for the masses of the working/taxpaying middle class in Maryland!

Endnote:  I wonder what the 32,397 Democrats and 12,628 Independents who signed the petition (out of over 130,000 total signatures) will think of the mob tactics being deployed by CASA, unions and their lawyer, the DNC’s Joseph E. Sandler.    (Those numbers are from a very good article I meant to post on today from the Baltimore Sun).

See my whole category on Joseph E. Sandler, here.

***Update August 2nd:  This bully Sandler is really funny.  Here he says this to the Washington Post:

“Maryland law makes this deliberately difficult,” Sandler added. “We live in a representative democracy. We don’t live by mob rule; not every law is supposed to go to the voters.”

He should know a thing or two about mob rule and besides, if Sandler and his rich pals weren’t suing this would be the first successful petition drive in twenty years—not exactly “every law” going to the voters in Maryland.

Addendum:  Here is a link relating to this case which I’m posting here so as not to lose it.  It involves the lack of decision by the MD Court of Appeals on a previous referendum petition.
