Outrage! CASA de Maryland already! sent a disk with petitioners’ personal information

Update (7:20 p.m.):  Richard Falknor at Blue Ridge Forum reports on more confusing information (including a time-line) coming out of the State Board of Elections today; reminds activists that it is our job to stay vigilant and keep the pressure on Annapolis at all levels.

Update message from Neil Parrott:

UPDATE:  Great news! The Board of Elections has decided that they will make the copies of the petitions and will not release petitions directly to Casa.

They released names and addresses of all petition signers accepted and rejected on Thursday to Casa and have sent us a copy of that information as well.  At this point, please do not call the Board of Elections, they are great to work with and are caught in the middle of this challenge by Casa.

Please explain what the good news is!  The SBE gave CASA a disk with all names and addresses last Thursday when they could easily have postponed any release of information until after the drive is officially over on June 30th.

Last night I urged readers to politely contact the Maryland State Board of Elections to urge them to not help CASA de Maryland intimidate voters by turning over personal information to an advocacy group for illegal aliens.  But, sure enough we learn that instead of allowing CASA to remove your information from the security of the State Board of Elections office this morning, they have ALREADY SENT THEM YOUR INFORMATION ELECTRONICALLY!

Read Del. Michael Smigiel’s report on what happened over the weekend!

With their action the Maryland State Board of Elections is, in my view, complicit with CASA de Maryland in intimidating voters and chilling turnout at sign-up  locations in the final days of the petition drive.

Frankly, not in my wildest dreams did I think that Maryland government, the State Board of Elections  no less, could be this deceptive and willfully (even before any legal action was taken to bring suit), jeopardize the voters of Maryland and potentially subject them to harassment for simply expressing their opinion on a law with which they disagree.

You must speak up!

It is too late to keep your personal information out of the hands of illegal aliens, but now more than ever, it is time for you to voice your anger at the Maryland State Board of Elections, your Senators and your Delegates.   Write to the Governor too (I know that’s useless, but do it anyway).

Here is the contact information for the Maryland SBE.  They open at 8 a.m.!

Update:  If you hear of any voter on the list harassed by CASA de Maryland, the ACLU, Progressive Maryland or even the Maryland Catholic Conference, please report the harassment.
