Seems Bob Ehrlich’s Lt. Governor running mate is as much in the dark as we are about where ‘Bobby’ stands on illegal immigration.
In response to my post of earlier today which touched on former Governor Robert Ehrlich’s fuzzy position on the illegal alien crisis in Maryland, a reader informs us that Mary Kane seems unable to explain it either.
This from reader and audience member ‘JusttheFactsLady’:
Funny that those fighting illegal immigration in Maryland seem to think that Ehrlich cares about this issue and will do anything to stem the illegal tide in Maryland. I suggest they wake up.
Last night, at a Young Republicans meeting Mary Kane, running mate of Ehrlich, was the guest speaker. In her speech she did not broach the illegal immigration topic. During the q&a portion she was asked what would Ehrlich do about illegal immigration and she had 3 points, one of which she could not remember. The first was to settle the drivers license issue about illegals. (Didn’t we pass that bill last year under O’Malley and wasn’t it enacted this summer? Yes we did and it was.) The second was no in-state tuition for illegals. Good. And the one she couldn’t remember, but eventually did with help, was not fund organizations which support illegal immigration. It was pointed out that Ehrlich had funded CASA. She said that if they could PROVE that CASA was supporting illegal immigration then they would defund it. What’s there to PROVE? All that’s necessary is to read their own website: “CASA’s vision is for strong, economically and ethnically diverse communities in which all people – especially women, low-income people, and workers – can participate and benefit fully, regardless of their immigration status.”
Mary Kane said nothing about enforcing laws; nothing about pushing E-verify; nothing about pushing 287g; nothing about requiring proof of legal residence for any number of services available to illegals; nothing about pushing for Pat’s [Del.Pat McDonough] pet issue “English Only.” Some support for those fighting illegal immigration! Ha.
It stretches credulity to imagine that Mrs. Kane, herself an attorney, is so fuzzy on illegal immigration when Mr. Kane endorsed Thomas Perez, a former board member of Casa de Maryland and friend of the Kane family, to be the top attorney in the US Justice Department in charge of civil rights violations and now that same man is responsible for the lawsuit against Arizona’s legal efforts to get that state’s illegal alien population under control.
This might be a good time for Del. Pat McDonough to release that letter he said he received from Bob Ehrlich regarding his support for Del. McDonough’s proposed ‘Arizona-like’ bill for Maryland. It might be edifying for all of us (including Mrs. Kane) to see just where Mr. Erhlich does stand on the hot button topic.
