Former MD Delegate Saqib Ali circulates letter critical of MD CAN

Update October 25th:  More here at the Daily Caller.

Readers, this is Part II of silencing voices concerned with the spread of Islamic Shariah law.   Part I is hereTea Party booted from Texas hotel because Muslims didn’t like the speaker.  Please read it and then return to this post.

We previously reported that former Delegate Saqib Ali attempted to stop the Chevy Chase Republican Women’s Club from hearing speakers Fred and Catherine Mann-Grandy.

Now Ali is circulating the letter (below)—Signed by CAIR and CASA de Maryland (among others) implying that Maryland Conservative Action Network organizers are “hate mongers”  and “bigots” (full disclosure this writer is one of the organizers).  And, if he thinks that’s effective, that is o.k. with us because we believe in free speech.  We believe in it so much that I’m posting his letter in its entirety.

But, we would never in a million years do what the Islamic supremacists did in Texas (or Tennessee)—intimidate a hotel into canceling a contract.  If Mr.Ali wants to hold conferences all over Maryland to convince citizens that Shariah law is not a threat to America—go for it!

Here is Mr. Ali’s letter (be sure to note those groups which he says have signed so far, looks like Saqib has connections in high places):

Statement of Concern Regarding MDCAN Conference in Annapolis on 10/29/2011

We, the undersigned have learned that the Maryland Conservative Action Network (MDCAN) will be hosting a political conference in Annapolis on October 29th entitled “Turning the Tides”.

Unfortunately, instead of inviting legitimate conservative speakers, MDCAN has instead chosen speakers who are well-known conspiracy theorists, McCarthyites, racists and anti-Muslim fanatics. The conference will feature a panel entitled “Is Shariah Coming to Maryland?”. The idea that American Muslims are trying to secretly subvert the US constitution by implementing Shariah is one that has been widely debunked and discredited as a paranoid fantasy. Yet this panel is packed with speakers who continue to push this outlandish conspiracy theory. The list of troubling speakers at this conference include:

*Frank Gaffney: One of the nation’s leading Islamophobes and conspiracy theorists who was cited extensively by the Norwegian terrorist Andre Breivik in his violent memo that he released in the wake of the horrific massacre he committed against sixty-nine innocent men, women, and children. Gaffney says that President Obama “may actually still” be a Muslim. And that the new logo for the Missile Defense Agency “appears ominously to reflect a morphing of the Islamic crescent and star with the Obama campaign logo”. Gaffney also alleged “compelling evidence” that Saddam Hussein was involved in the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing.

*Robert Stacy McCain: An extremist right-wing blogger who has referred to gay people as “faggots” and Mexican people as “Beaners” on multiple occasions.

*Fred Grandy & wife Catherine Mann-Grandy: Former radio show hosts and former Congressman who refer to American Muslims as “Sharia-Compliant” and feel it necessary to “warn” others that Muslims work in our government. They actively promote the idea that American Muslims are trying to secretly subvert the Constitution by implementing “Creeping Shariah”.

*Christopher Monckton: British Nobleman who claims that President Obama supports “the communist world government” and that by signing the Kyoto climate treaty President Obama “would be signing away our freedom and democracy forever”. Monckton has a history of telling outlandish lies including falsely claiming he was a member of the British Parliament and claiming to have won a Nobel Prize.

Additionally the following Maryland State Legislators are scheduled to address this conference: Senator Christopher Shank, Delegates Kathy Afzali, Patrick McDonough, Neil Parrot.

We unquestionably uphold the right of free speech guaranteed by the First Amendment to the US Constitution. However, we cannot remain silent when bigots and hate-mongers come to our communities to spread their lies and intolerance. We strongly denounce the racism, Islamophobia, homophobia and rank McCarthyism espoused by speakers at this conference and urge other people of good conscience to do the same. Additionally, we ask any public officials scheduled to attend this conference to strongly reconsider their decisions to preserve the honor and integrity of their offices.

Signed:
Islamic Society of Annapolis
Equality Maryland
Muslim Public Affairs Council
CASA de Maryland
Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)

Update:  Another American hotel caves today to pressure from Islamists to silence critics—here—at Jihad Watch.

  2. To clarify your first point, Muslims and others of good conscience, didn’t like the lies being spewed by the speaker who was slated to speak. That same hypocritical speaker had also previously made comments of “those outside of NYC keeping out of the business of NYC” regarding her opposition against Park 51, the Islamic community center in lower Manhattan, that she misnamed “the ground zero mosque“.

Hypocritically, she goes down in Texas, ready to rake in the bucks to spew her Islamaphobic venom, minding someone else’s business!!

I’m glad the event was forced out of the hotel. Good for them!!

  3. By the way, can you define the term that you used, “Islamists“? Is that like, a “mist of Islam“. If so, how does a mist silence anyone….?

As I understand it, that’s a slur against anyone that speaks against Islamaphobia as the Islamaphobes flat-out refuse to call them Muslims. In their puny minds, the only good Muslims are the one who agree with their denigration of Islam and other Muslims.
