Tea Partier: “I think we should tar-and-feather Dick Armey.”

Uh-oh does that suggest we Tea Partiers are violent?   LOL!  I don’t think any of the crybaby Democrats are going to come to Dick Armey’s defense anytime soon!

It is with a sigh of relief I report today that Politico has a huge story about how Tea Party grassroots are concerned about Dick Armey’s (FreedomWorks) stance on a number of issues of great concern to conservative grassroots activists—social issues, immigration and national security to name the three biggies (in addition to fiscal issues of course).  We have raised these same concerns at PTPR on a number of occasions, here most recently.

From Politico:

It seemed a strange fit to begin with — a former House Republican leader turned $750,000-a-year Washington lobbyist who resurfaced as perhaps the single most identifiable leader of a populist, anti-Washington movement.

And in recent weeks, Dick Armey has found himself targeted by a quiet, but concerted campaign from fellow conservatives challenging — and seeking to undermine — his status as a leader of the tea party movement.

Critics ranging from prominent conservatives to bloggers to grass-roots tea party activists have called into question whether Armey’s stances on illegal immigration and social issues, his candidate endorsements and his past lobbying work are fundamentally inconsistent with the tea party movement. They also have suggested he raised the white flag too early in the fight over the Democratic health care overhaul and is beholden to corporate benefactors, and have accused him of trying to hijack the tea parties to serve those benefactors or his own personal political ambitions.

Read on!  It is long but well worth the read as a cautionary tale about how Tea Partiers need to follow our first instincts—stay away from inside the beltway pols!

One final thought before I wrap up this post.  This last line in the Politico story is bugging me.

We’re not losing any sleep over it,” he [FreedomWorks spokesman] said. “The thing about FreedomWorks is we don’t shy away from a fight.”

It strikes me as the sheer arrogance that we Tea Partiers have had enough of from Washington insiders.  ‘We aren’t losing any sleep over what you peons think!’  Isn’t that how you read it!
